Jacking up a pergola!

This customer had a 15 year old pergola with rotten posts that were leaning and were going to cause the pergola to fall. We were hired to replace the posts and square up the pergola to a structurally sound position. How did we remove the posts without the pergola falling down? We jacked up the pergola (literally with a bottle jack, similar to a car jack), built a support structure, removed the posts and set the pergola down on the support structure. Check out this video on how we did it. Take a look at the pictures too!

Jacking up a pergola!

We were hired to replace the posts of an existing pergola. How did we do it? We build a support structure, jacked the pergola up, pulled out the posts and then set the pergola down on the new structure. This allowed us to remove the posts while keeping the pergola standing and in tact.

Look at the posts, check out the lean to the left. This pergola is about to go down.

To support it we built a truss system, kind of like an old fashioned railroad bridge.

Hey, notice something missing? Like the posts?

This pergola has no posts, it is fully supported by our truss system!
